Live authentically and sparkle everyday

August 2023

Teddy Nyahasha, CEO

This year’s Brighton & Hove Pride is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Pride march in the city and the brave LGBTQ+ trailblazers who have fearlessly made their voices heard as they have campaigned for change over the last five decades.

Much has been achieved in that half a century, so expect the sparkliest of celebrations, with 50 years’ worth of colour and joy focused on Brighton & Hove and the most wonderful weekend of fabulous costumes and partying.

But Pride is also our reminder that there’s still much progress to be made, with members of the LGBTQ+ community suffering human rights abuses and facing being criminalised, tortured or sentenced to death in many parts of the world.

Closer to home Pride highlights that true equity and inclusion continues to be an ongoing process.

"Calling out unacceptable words and behaviour is essential in reinforcing the cultural shift"

It’s not always easy, but calling out unacceptable words and behaviour is essential in reinforcing the cultural shift that we’ve seen in the last 50 years and ensuring lasting change.

As an ally I will do exactly that, regardless of who you are.

So, as an employer based in the heart of the city, I’m proud that OneFamily has been a partner of Brighton & Hove Pride for many years.

For us, Pride is something that we live all year round - we actively encourage our team to bring their true selves to work every day, because we believe that no-one should have to endure the stress of hiding behind a work mask.

We think that everyone should be free to live their lives authentically, to sparkle everyday and to be truly happy.

And that freedom is thanks to the bravery of those early campaigners. So, celebrate as loudly, proudly and with as much joy as you can.

That’s the best thank you that you can give.
