Letter to the Ministry of Justice
80,000 young adults with mental incapacity will be locked out of £200m of savings held in child trust funds.
The current process asks the families of these young people to go through the Court of Protection in order to access their savings, no matter how much is in the account. This is often a long and costly process.
Which is why OneFamily and Beagle Street CEO, Jim Islam, has written a letter to Heidi Alexander MP, of the Ministry of Justice asking for change.
The letter is co-signed by:
- Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, CEO of Foresters Financial
- Andrew Whyte, CEO of the Association of Financial Mutuals
- Robin Fieth, CEO of the Building Societies Association
- Carol Knight, CEO of The Investing and Saving Alliance
- Johnny Timpson OBE, Commissioner at the Financial Inclusion Commission and Co-Founder and Board Member of GAIN (Group for Autism, Insurance and Neurodiversity)
